この魔物の存在は多くのものに知られているが、反面その正体を知るものは少ない。

とにかく夢魔退治とくれば、酒場の鉄板ネタの一つなのだ。

曰く、俺の精力の強さに夢魔の方から降参したわ！だの、俺は魔物の正体をすぐさま看破し説教をしてやった！だの、眠るたびに夢魔に襲われて困っちまうだとか、まあ大抵の場合は、泥酔した男のくだらないホラ話だ。

だが今回のそれは違った。

冒険者が多く泊まる宿屋街、そのあちこちで被害者が続出しているというのだ。

豪傑達が疲労困憊の状態で発見される異常な夜がもう何日も続いている。

精力だけではなく、生命力までも奪われているようで、立ち上がることもままならないという話だ。

彼らは体臭が服の上からでも香ってくるような精力に満ちた男ばかりで、発見者は皆現場の状況や臭いについて気まずそうに語っている。

状況から見て夢魔の仕業に違いないとされ、怒りのザクロ亭に高額の報酬と共に依頼が来た。

これだけの額、ただごとではない。

つまるところ、精力の溢れた男ばかりの怒りのザクロの男に、囮となって夢魔と戦ってくれという話だ。

この二人が適任ということになった。

そして、その候補にベアセスは自分を追加した。

これは候補となった二人に対する、ギルドマスターとしてのせめてもの気遣いだ。
