The Importance of Setting Boundaries
Added 2023-01-08 12:51:24 +0000 UTC“People will treat you the way you allow them to treat you”.
This doesn’t mean you’re at fault if someone treats you poorly, more like, you are responsible for either upholding or confronting said treatment. Do you accept or reject it?
I for one struggle with this. As I’m sure many of you guys do too, as a lot of us are natural people pleasers. We want to give people a chance, we want to see the good, heck, sometimes we’d even like to be wrong about people.
And whilst there’s nothing wrong with wanting to see the good in people, the issue lies in not taking on other people’s negative treatment as your problem.
There’s obviously a lot of grey here, factors, circumstances, health, context, but case by case, day by day, we have to decide what we’re going to accept and what we’re going to reject.
Moral of the very vague story - don’t internalise people’s shit. How someone treats you usual says far more about them than it does about you - for better or worse.
Stay safe, be kind.

2023-01-08 14:51:36 +0000 UTCI've suffered from low self esteem for a long time and I definitely have let people treat me worse than I should. As always, thank you Tea for your sweet and wise words.

2023-01-08 14:26:20 +0000 UTCYup, so true. While it's okay to joke around with friends and maybe call each other retards here and there, you wouldn't want some random stranger on the street just push you away because you were in their way, would you? Or even a coworker who you're not really friends with. And while some may be able to handle that kind of situation better, others do not. And before it turns into a complete mess, it's best to step up for yourself and set things right. Even if it takes a lot of confidence, it is 110% worth it in the end.
