In the old image, the lighting was dark and well, off, so I had to add a light behind the camera that shouldn't exist in the scene to front-light the characters or they'd be too dimly lit to see. You can also see that the image is extremely grainy and that's after a lot of polish in post-production. The new image has the lighting in the scene fixed and the materials on for the dresses were tweaked to have a more sheer-purple look as originally intended instead of the plastic-like pink. The original was rendered altogether whereas the new image had each component rendered separately and then combined in post but still took half the time with significantly higher convergence (render quality).
