Smartphone vs. Real Meters for Sound and Light Measurement?

Anyway, I would like to find an inexpensive alternative to dedicated lux and decibel meters. I have a multimeter that should work as both - but is it good enough?
Or what about the smartphone I already have? Will it work well enough with some free apps for light and sound measurement? Time to find out...
