Useful Tools for Running Games on Roll20

Here is the quick and dirty list of tools I use for running games on roll20. These are so ingrained into my DMing experience that they've become second nature. They won't make you a good DM, but they will make it less burdensome to execute your vision for your campaign.

VTT Enhancement Suite is a browser extension / addon that smooths over some flaws in roll20 and gives you some nice options. At the bottom of this post you'll see a screenshot of the settings I use. Honestly, this is a must have for running games. It has so many little useful things that I can't even imagine running games on roll20 without it.

Tabletop Audio: Has a ton of music that gets imported into Roll20's Jukebox. It's much easier to browse on the Tabletop Audio website, and the more recently released tracks that haven't made it to roll20 yet can be found here, and manually imported if you like. Also, most tracks have multiple versions if you subscribe to their Patreon. Perhaps you really like a track for its music but not it's background; you'll probably find a version without the ambiance on Patreon. They're one the few people I am a Patron of and cannot underscore enough how useful I find these tracks.

Tabletop Audio Track Categorization: So useful is the tabletop audio background music that I've dedicated untold hours listening to the tracks and finding the right use for them. This spreadsheet may help you find the right track for the right use. I make a bunch of master playlists in roll20 that I can import to each of my games to cut down on the work. Just go to Tools > Manage Audio from the Roll20 home page and you can set up playlists that can be imported into each of the games you DM/GM for.

Roll20 Status Effect Markers: I just made a post about this last week. These tools useful especially for 5th edition, but also for generic TTRPG games. I have a feeling I'll be using the AC tokens more and more in the future, especially for characters that would have obvious AC, like someone in platemail with a shield.

Gabriel Pickard's Map Assets: These are what I use for most of my maps. I really like them, and I especially like that there's a huge library of maps all in the same style. The Village to Pillage and the Critical Trails series in particular are great.

Devin Night's Token Assets: I get almost all my character and monster tokens here. Similar to Gabriel Pickard's, there's a huge variety all in the same style so you can almost always find what you're looking for.

Kobold Fight Club: This isn't for roll20 perse, but it is a very useful tool for browsing through the default 5e monsters. I never use the encounter builder part, I just use the sorting settings of CR, Environment, and Creature Type when I'm looking for a monster template or inspiration for an encounter. Just make sure that you've clicked the "manage sources" button so that you're not inundated with entries that you don't have the books / digital assets for to look up.
