What's inside the world's smallest show laser?

With a heat wave passing over Denmark (and most of Europe), this video was exhausting to make. I really need to switch my studio lights to some cooler running LED-types and aircondition my tiny editing room if this continues...

Anyway, in my newest video I open the LaserCube to figure out, how they managed to make it that small. I compare it with the insides of a similarly spec'ed LaserDock and test them in three different power trials. A 2 watt LaserDock also joins the party :)

Thanks to you and Wicked Lasers for making this video possible.

Hey Sneaky. Congrats with the show laser. To my knowledge there are no goggles covering all the RGB-wavelengths at the same time. I guess the filter materials can't cover a narrow enough range of wavelengths, so including one for red, green and blue would just make the glasses opaque black, letting no visible light in. The broadest covering goggles are those made for Argon/NdGa:YAG lasers. I personally bought some from Edmund Optics that are now discontinued (part number 59-974), but they have similar spec'ed models here: https://www.edmundoptics.com/f/broad-spectrum-laser-gard-safety-eyewear/11380/ They are not adequate for the red laser, so you will have to switch to some other goggles when e.g. aligning the red laser.

Hey Brainiac, I just obtained something very similar with red (638nm) green (520nm) and blue (450nm) but I am having trouble finding safety goggles which are suitable for three wavelengths. Can you point me in the right direction?

Hi Sarge. Glad you like it! I have always been fascinated by the technology in laser shows, so it was exciting for me to dissect two of them - and share it with you. While sponsors do usually send talking points for the creator to make a personalized script from, I have never seen any sponsor trying to make me lie to my viewers? Yes, I do use NordVPN and have been doing so since April 2018, where I bought a three-year subscription. I can't remember if it was with a JaysTwoCents or boogie2988 promo code. I follow them both, and they have had NordVPN as a sponsor for a long time :) I am very picky about my sponsors and aim for science-related sponsors. Unfortunately there aren't many of them. NordVPN isn't exactly science-related but I accepted them as a sponsor, since I actually do use their service, am happy with it and have no problems with recommending them. Hope it clarifies - otherwise feel free to ask further questions. And thanks for the big, long-time support here on Patreon :D

Nice job on this video, Brian! Love the inside look at these impressive beasts. Let me ask you something off the record though. Do you actually use NordVPN, or is that just part of the script they give you for sponsoring? Because several of the YouTubers I watch have NordVPN as a sponsor, and I wonder if it’s just something they ask you to say or not.
