Development Update #2 - August 20th, 2018

Hi there guys!

Time for our second development update!

Rendering is going great. We’re working on the game 7 days a week, no days off, steadily producing between 3 and 5 images a day. Some days we can produce more, depending on the scene, and we hope to create more at a faster rate once Episode 1 is released and we gain more support. So spread the word!

We’re right in the middle of the unexciting, technical period of the development process right now, at the point when all the story ideas and images need to meld cohesively together. So that can be very draining. But, it does mean we can give you some more details about Episode 1 and what to expect:

How long is the full Episode going to be?

Right now the full first episode is more than four (yes, four) times longer than the preview. At first we thought we may have bitten off more than we could chew, but we’re on track. We’ll also visit four new locations, some of which Eleanor is familiar with and others that are a new experience. 

Will Episode 1 introduce new characters not seen in the preview?

Absolutely! We’ll meet 6 new major characters in Episode 1, including Eleanor’s close friends. Some new characters may not appear to have any importance at this stage, but they will later on in Eleanor’s summer.

We're also toying with the idea of dropping the ability to customise your character name. This will give more room for characters to call Eleanor by other names, like Ele and Ellie, as well as nicknames, as in real life she wouldn't constantly be referred to as Eleanor. So we want to know what you think. Do you change the protagonist's name when playing? Or would you rather choose the default name? We're not likely to make this change, but we'd be interested to know.

More previews will come soon, though we’re not going to share any story spoilers. You’ll have to play the game to uncover them!

On the nickname front, it would be cool if she was teased with a name like "little miss virgin-knickers". The nickname could initially bother her, but then If Eleanor decides to keep her growing sexual experience to herself, she could start to find the name funny. For added amusement, Eleanor could be called the name while in a state of post-orgasmic bliss after really wild sex with the little brother of the girl teasing her.

Personally, I think that the most important thing for a visual novel is the story, and a name is an important part of the story. So, if you think that a name is important for the development of the story, it's important to keep it. And I also think that, in this way, it's easier to develop the story. Then, I vote to keep the name Eleanor.

When playing a game with a female MC/protagonist, I like it when the name is chosen by the dev, especially if it suits her personality. If I choose a name that doesn't fit, I'll feel it later. And nicknames/pet names are a great way to breathe life into a character during dialogue. I wouldn't have minded if you never brought it up, haha but now that you asked I'm hoping you'll change, but not a big deal. BTW, have you tried the DAZ 4.11 public beta with the new "post denoiser"? I've heard from devs saying it cuts rendering time 50 to 80% depending on the scene.

One of the important characteristics of the characters you create are their names, so I'll give my vote to dropping character name customisation. Seems like you're creating a character driven piece rather than a contrived sex simulator, and as you mentioned the variations on her name that people call her, and her nicknames would create nicer. more real and human moments.
