SVTFOE S04 E03 Full Length Reaction

Well ... they've established that Star and Eclipsa are kindred spirits. I think we're seeing what would happen with Star as queen, had Star not started to take her duties seriously. Oh, and let's not forget all the winks the episode made to the Tomco shippers out there....

What a slow play! The entire first half of this episode, we get Moon seemingly completely cool with Eclipsa and the new paradigm... and BOOM nope! I think it speaks well to the writers that they have Moon, who is currently struggling to regain the majority of her memories, still instinctively mistrust Eclipsa. And omg that heartbreak at the end where she breaks Star's heart by basically telling her she made a terrible error in judgement in handing over the kingdom and the wand to Eclipsa. For Star, who subconsciously is always searching for a bit of recognition and praise from her mother, that must have really stung. And that second episode, I love how they disguised such a serious and dark episode with the fluffy premise of Star, Tom, and Marco going to the beach. A couple of things to digest here in this chapter that I think are really telling. The first is that Tom has a point. Why isn't he in that supposed picture from the future? For a guy who knows his girlfriend is into Marco and knows that she and Marco kissed, that has got to be pretty worrying. Even worse, though is Eclipsa. I think in this episode we get a much clearer look at the woman and why in my opinion Star really did make a mistake making her queen. She seems singularly concerned with breaking out Globgor, and is willing neglect her other duties to achieve that goal. Not good qualities in someone who is supposed to be responsible for an entire kingdom. Moreover, you see hints of this all throughout season 3. The irreverent attitude towards duty, the emphasis on fun over responsibility, the aversion to anything formal... Just little hints at Eclipsa's character that I think really shed a lot of light on how terrible a queen she will be.

That's such a good point about Rhombulus' expressions that I've never noticed before! They really do animate him quite well.
