CONVENTIONS! INSANE OPPORTUNITY or WASTE OF TIME?

Thanks! I can attest to the huge difference between networking and mastermind experience at a convention. I went to the MACCC conference a few years in a row when I was in college studying music performance. It's basically a California community college event to work with a top qualified college conductor each year. We grinded rehearsal for 3 hours the first evening, then 6 hours the next day(which was the real value and reason to go), then 3 hours the next day followed by a performance. I noticed a huge difference between the value of going there for the experience and the value of networking. People would try to get contact info and try to collab and I highly doubt anybody actually followed through. Everyone is just from too far away to do anything meaningful for music performance collabs. Similarly the various universities who would show up to sponsor the event would hand out flyers/etc to try to get people to go, and everyone there looked like they wanted to get the hell out of there to go socialize in their hotel rooms or at the bars. I like the idea of going to conventions for reasons other than trying to be one of the hundreds/thousands of people who are super sweaty and overly eager, talking in that tone that just tells me this is someone I don't want to associate with. I am attracted to the idea of gaining something valuable from an event.

I own a small IV/cosmetic injection business and have had zero luck with conventions and trade shows. I figured I was doing it wrong, so it's nice to hear that services and networking at those events fall through for others. My wife had the idea of selling (or even giving away) cheap merch like coozies, coasters, shirts to draw people in and get some brand recognition. If I had those shows to do over again, I'd probably go that route. Awesome and helpful video, as always, Devin!
