On Farnese’s growth, the thing I like is that Guts really had nothing to do with it! Guts did show her what reality was then it took some time for her to really come to terms with her upbringing and indoctrination into religion. She asked Guts to teach her and he refused, she then asked Scheirke to teach her and she accepted. So, as a female, I really appreciate this relationship that these two female characters have. Yes, Guts brought them together, but, they do share a bond that only they understand because they are magic users, teacher and student, older and younger “ sisters”, females. I think it’s important to understand this story wise. I also think this is were a lot of male readers get turned off of the story for not being as edgy as it used to be. Personally I love the relationships between all the characters and appreciate the lull in carnage. After all, every time Guts fights, he literally dies a little. Ain’t that edgy enough? After all, Miura has aged along with the story, he is no longer the 20 something that wrote the Black Swordsman arc. He is. 50 something that has lived and experienced more things, other things are a focus for us older 50 somethings. The story reflects that.
