Using Unconventional materials for telescopes series?

Hey everyone! I've been thinking of making a series looking at various materials that could potentially be used in telescopes and optics. Traditional glass optics involve time-consuming and expensive processes, and there aren't many alternatives due to their limitations. However, there are some recent promising techniques using resins and maybe even plastics that can be done at home, as well as more challenging methods involving molten metals and glass that I'm eager to try out.

Researchers have been delving into this field for a long time, so I’m thinking of creating a series where I show the current discoveries made by these experts, then share my own experiments, and continue to explore different techniques and materials in a few future videos. Depending how successful these are, I'm hoping to aluminize one of these plastic mirrors and see how they go with looking at space objects. I'm curious to know if others would be interested in following this as part of a series?

Yeah it's really a matter of how well it works out. So far it looks promising :D

That sounds really interessting and visually appealling, if they work out! Please do that!

This would be super cool. I remember once seeing a video guide someone made for 3D printing lenses with transparent(ish) filament. It'd be really cool to see what people could do at home to craft their own optics.

Astrophotography is a hobby of mine so a dive into this would definitely interest me.

Awesome! I'm happy to hear people are interested in this. I find photochemistry quite fascinating myself, so I might have a look into that as well :)

Mr Green

I would definitively watch that :) I am a lot into photo chemestry and photography in generall and telescope optics is not that far away. Its still optics, which I am easyly impressed by. And maybe I can even use your content as an inspiration for improvised photo-lens projects. So yes, please go ahead, I am already curious.
