Remixing Avernus (Early Access PDF v2020-04-02)

This is an unusual preview: It includes a version of Part 3C: The Vanthampur Investigations that is technically complete, but which I then realized was broken.

It works, but basically there's a glaring logic error that you can't unsee once you see it:

- I wanted to use the Hamhocks Slaughterhouse as the place where the murders are being committed.
- But it's outside the gates, and it doesn't make sense for the murderers to smuggle refugees out of the city, murder them, and then smuggle them back in.
- My initial intention was to just move the slaughterhouse inside the gates. Easy fix.
- But then I remembered that hooved beasts aren't allowed inside the city, which means there can't be a slaughterhouse in the city.

So I'm going to have to take a hatchet to this bit and rebuild it before I can post it to the website. But the structural stuff is all accurate, so I thought it might be of interest to you!

I was just wondering, where would paupers' bodies actually be taken in Baldur's Gate, and discovered this is one case where the gazetteer is ahead of me. Both the Shrine of Suffering and Candulhallow's corpse carts are called out. The catacombs where Brother Hodges sets bodies for *cleaning* is fantastic, reminiscent of sky burial. And he's got a problem that will fit super well with adventurers who suddenly show up wanting to inspect the dead.

Re: Separate conceptual solve. Yes. I didn't track it separately mostly because the adventure is inherently saturated with this information: They go through an entire Dead Three dungeon filled with Dead Three shrines and cultists; then they go through an entire Zariel dungeon filled with Zariel shrines and cultists. Lots of opportunities to figure it out.
