Grand Theft Auto in the Turks???

Ok, maybe it wasn't "grand theft auto" but it was certainly theft!! Let's start at the beginning!

The Turks and Caicos treated us very well during our stay. We found lots of gorgeous beaches, beautiful restaurants and even another fish fry (a kind of music filled street party with food to purchase) to enjoy! The island was expensive and the tourist population was huge. The remote island feel was gone and we found ourselves surrounded by fancy buildings, lovely resorts and plenty of places to shop. It was a change from most of the Bahama islands, that's for sure!

One day we went exploring with our little rental car and found a great little reef system just offshore, we thought it would be a fantastic idea to do a little shore dive before our weather window allowed us to sail south. We woke up early the next morning, grabbed our dive gear and drove to the other side of the island so we could dive on the reef.

The dive was a shore dive (basically you just walk into the ocean from the beach), it was absolutely amazing. Jeremiah and I had never experienced a reef system quite like the one we were diving on. The marine life was incredible and very active, it ended up as our longest dive yet of 51 minutes. We saw turtles, beautiful reefs and tons of fish and we got amazing diving footage which we are so excited about! We completed the dive and made our way back to the rental car. Here's where it went wrong!

We were parked in a very busy public area right next to a Beaches resort but that didn't appear to stop someone from smashing a window on the rental car and grabbing our belongings that we had hidden under a seat. UGH! The items that they got were our two iPhones, a GoPro, dive flashlights, our dive logs and some other minor items. The worst part about it is the footage that the GoPro contained and the photos/memories that were on our phones. Such a bummer!!

Thankfully we had most of our stuff with us on the dive, we still have our dive GroPro to use until we can get a replacement and as far as communication, we had an old iPhone onboard that we're able to use in the meantime. That's important because our Sat Phone needs a smart phone in order to operate when we're offshore!

So we're trying to organize a shipment from the states to replace the items we need, it can be pretty tricky and pricey shipping things here. We are doing our best to figure out hotspots now to get our content up and taking all the pictures we can for our Instagram bank. Looking at the whole situation I find it interesting that we got robbed on an Island like the Turks in Caicos when we have been in much worse areas before. I guess it can really happen to you anywhere! Stuff is just stuff though, things could be a lot worse!

As of now we're stuck! The trade winds are blowing from the east at 25knts everyday and we're just waiting for the weather window to cross from the Dominican to Puerto Rico. The DR has been amazing though, we're truly enjoying this beautiful country!!

Yes, you are absolutely right! It couldn't be more annoying! Next time I think we would have better luck asking someone on the beach to look over our stuff for a few bucks ;) We also have thought about keeping the old iPhone we are using now active and taking that along with us from now on...That way if it gets stolen then it won't effect us :-/

It really pisses you off some low lifes resort to stealing. There really is no good place to secure your belongings while you are diving. Glad you folks are alright.
