Yesterday we sailed a 1970's Cross 39 trimaran (actually this one was a 42 because of an extension of the stern) around Catalina Island and it was awesome!
The sailing around Catalina features spectacular views, beautiful wildlife and great winds! We were cruising in a light 10 knot wind all day, it was pretty perfect!
This is the first trimaran that we had been on. It was like a mix of a cat and a monohull. While it was fast and steady, we still like either a monohull or a cat and will be keeping both on our lists of boats to purchase.
As far as sailing here...So far we feel the views are even more amazing. Land shoots up into mountains from the waters out here. The water is deep which allows for a large keel, the wildlife is even more spectacular! We were surrounded by a huge pod of what we believe were Dall's Porpoise at one point yesterday, it was breathtaking! They're larger and faster than the porpoise back east. They almost looked like whales!
We quickly moored up at one point and paddled over to a private beach that is part of a very old and protected Native American burial ground. It was also one of the only natural beaches on Catalina. The sand was so soft and a beautiful brown color. You'll see beautiful views of it because we launched our drone, Fiesta, from the beach. It was awesome!
Overall, we had a great time! Of course we're doing all sorts of filming so you'll get all the action. We just wanted to give you a little update!
Love,
Brittany and Jeremiah
