We've been incredibly busy with all 3 little Geckos. Jessica and Trevor arrived at the beginning of summer and I think it is safe to say we've done a great job of showing them Key West!
The first couple days were spent showing them the island by using a rental car we had reserved to pick them up from the airport. Then we took them snorkeling at a beach we have here at a marina. We were hoping to find a conch shell but didn't have much luck.
After the first couple days and much planning, Jeremiah and I decided that we were going to experience Key West a bit differently with the kids. We wanted to learn a bit more about the history Key West holds. So first up was a Ghost tour!! It was interesting to learn that Yellow Fever took over this little Key and caused so many deaths. One of the more haunted houses is believed to be haunted by a family that all died due to Yellow Fever. We also learned a lot about Robert the Doll which was probably the most interesting story and definitely the scariest. We tried to get the kids to visit Robert at the Museum but they were pretty adamant about not wanting to. I must say that I can't blame them! We took them to visit the Littlest White House that happened to be incredibly interesting! I think we all enjoyed learning about the history of the many Presidents who enjoyed their visits here over the years.
After the first week of exploring we decided to get the kids out on the water. The weather was bad for sailing so we booked a deep sea fishing trip through the military ITT office. The total cost was only $80.00, can you believe that?! Rhys and I stayed behind but the kids really enjoyed their trip. They came home with the biggest smiles on their faces. They brought home some snapper for us to grill up and boy-oh-boy was that ever yummy!
Whenever we stop at a neat place like Key West we try to find a company that does scavenger hunts for the family to complete in but they happened to be completely booked this time. So it was time for me to bust out my mad Mom skills and put one together for them myself. It actually ended up being really fun for me because I already knew so much about Key West. Jeremiah and I have been coming here for almost 10 years now. The kids ended up getting all but 2 of the 40 riddles and rhymes that I put together. This was one of our favorite days and it was free which is the best!!
All in all, we loved our time in Key West with the kids! Haven't been? It's a great place to visit!!
