Waiting on a weather window!
Added 2017-03-25 20:03:40 +0000 UTCHere we sit...Waiting on a window to cross over to the Bahamas! It's not looking like we'll get one very soon so we plan to leave Miami tomorrow and head south along the outside of the Keys. The inside is just too shallow.
There are some great reefs and spots to explore that are only about 100 miles south, we plan to high tail it there and then when we get a window we'll leave from the Key Largo area. That will allow us to "ride" the Gulf Stream to the Bahamas instead of battle across it. So here we go! Thank you to the Patron that suggested the sweet spot to snorkel in the Keys! We'll make sure to get some good footage for you all!

We will keep that in mind for sure! I've started making a list for us to check off as we go so who knows, if it's possible then I'm sure we will do it :) Thank you for the tip!

2017-04-02 04:25:19 +0000 UTCHaving sailed across to Freeport on a few occasions, the weather can change quickly, but usually this time of the year it is more predictable. I took my girlfriend and soon to be betrothed across from Lauderdale to Freeport Memorial Day weekend 2012 for a Rugby Match. It was her first sail. La Bamba 42' cat with 11 on board three other experienced sailors and we ran into the beginning of Hurricane Beryl. She was sick the entire passage and she got back on the cat to sail back to the US, I knew she was a keeper. "Where he goes, I go" she said. Who else who stick by a man as they put her through a hurricane. We dream of retiring onto a sailboat and sailing the Caribbean avoiding Hurricane season.
2017-04-02 04:22:11 +0000 UTCActually we've been meeting all sorts of cruisers that have left the Bahamas and have returned to the states. They've all been running from storm after storm and staying in marina after marina to shield themselves so they gave up on it. A lot are headed for the Keys instead. We met one cruiser yesterday that had to do a 36 hour straight push in order to avoid a storm and get back here. So we are currently looking at our options.

2017-03-28 14:35:36 +0000 UTCCrossed the GS last week on a large cruise ship and got knocked around, people getting sick all around us. It was a wise choice on the part of Captain Jere and crew to wait for the right window!
