What's up with the dogs?!

Hi everyone! Some of you have asked about the dogs...In the most recent videos "Next time" footage we mention that we have bad news concerning the dogs, just in case you haven't seen it. Of course we aren't going to make you wait for it!

The dogs are great! They are healthy and happy...the issue is Rhys. Rhys has been breaking out in rashes around his eyes and cheeks plus his eyes have been pretty irritated. So we took him in for his 18 month visit and mentioned it. The Dr thought it probably isn't food but another allergy...possibly to DOGS...ugh...

So to test it out, we've decided to take the dogs off the boat for the time being. We always considered allowing Kiya to go to a home, she was one of Tacoris last litter of puppies. There is another boat in our current marina, they have an aging English Bulldog. We've talked over and over as we walk our dogs, we've decided to let them keep Kiya with the ability for us to still breed her should we ever choose.

Bella is with friends right now but will be coming back in the next month or so, she and Kori will be staying at a family members house along with their 5 yorkies LOL...Kori loves them, they're like chew toys!

We'll see if it helps Rhys'er, if not, we'll probably bring them back on board once we figure it out. If not, they can stay at the house indefinitely.

Have a great weekend!

Hi Walter! Thank you for your awesome post! Yes, we're all over it. Fortunately the boat is really easy to clean and the hair/dander should be at the least reduced dramatically. We've had Rhys away from the dogs for a few days already, we've seen an improvement...funny thing is that we stopped by someones house with a dog and Rhys broke out again. So we think we're on the right path. But time will tell. Thanks again!

As someone with many allergies, don't believe that someone builds up an immunity. This is a very old way of thinking and is usually propagated by people without allergies. It stems from the "man-up" era or cultural backgrounds. Also may people including myself are still allergic to so called "hypoallergenic" breeds. First thing to do is take to child out of the environment that's producing the allergy. Removing the dogs for a couple of weeks does nothing for the hair and dander their leaving in the living environment. Removing the child from the environment also deals with the actual cause, which very well might not be the dog. Suspect cleaning produces and laundry detergent as well. Laundry detergent can have many symptoms as it comes in contact with many parts of the body.Lots of people are sensitive to petroleum products. Latex found in mattresses and sunscreen, chemicals like DEET in bug spray. Eggs are a big childhood allergen from over consumption. Also keep in mind often the people that show signs are the canaries in the coal mine. You could have something onboard causing harm that is being shown by the youngest and fragile. If you think it's dog related, throw blankets, bedding, mattresses, cushions and fans circulating air are the enemy as these hold the dander, oils and hair of the dogs.

Us too Jason! We aren't even sure it's the dogs and we're not going to make him go through the test if he doesn't have to. Hopefully it just goes away. Some of the older kids had stuff along the way that sorted itself out.

Just an FYI for dog allergens. You do build up a tolerance to your own animals. It takes about 6 months to build it up in your life. I hope Rhys builds up quickly so he can enjoy the love of your fur babies again.

nah...I'm not going to put him through something painful that isn't necessary. There was no need...if it came up, we'd address it. It's all good! Just go with the flow!
