Exclusive Content: Zootopia Doujinshi Rough Sketches & Storyboards (1/3)

When Zootopia was released in 2016, I was going through my first heartbreak.
My partner—who had also been my creative collaborator—left me, and with that, I ended my first doujin circle, Turtle.Fish.Paint (I was the “Turtle”).
Afterward, I founded Bear Hand to begin creating a new doujinshi.

Jokes aside, GQuuuuuuX really is a remarkable anime.

I can hardly remember the overall plot, yet every episode felt far more exciting and satisfying than any other anime I was following at the time.

Okay, I’m satisfied now.
I thought I’d feel relieved after finishing this,
but instead I’m getting more and more scared about what might happen in the next two episodes.

GQuuuuuuX 4-Koma Manga 2–3

In Episode 10 of GQuuuuuuX, even though it was just one episode later, Machu suddenly seemed super close with Komori for some reason—she even gave her a nickname! I was completely baffled when I saw it. It made me wonder how much time had passed in between, and what exactly had happened between them.

A few fragmented scenes came to mind, so I tried drawing them out.

After episode 9 of GQuuuuuuX aired, a lot of people on Twitter started drawing Machu working while wearing a sheer lace babydoll.
I like Machu in a sheer lace babydoll too, but I just couldn’t come up with any ideas.
Instead, what stuck in my head was the moment she zipped up the jacket Komori lent her — because of the difference in their chest sizes, I broke into a cold sweat watching it.
And so, this random 4-koma manga just popped into my mind.

A blond-haired, blue-eyed Hamlet-Napoleon encounters an 16-year-old girl in an Indian brothel.

He immediately redeems her and sends her to the battlefield to kill for him, then wishes for her to become his mother.

I’ve seen people draw this character for years, and although I always liked her appearance, I never really knew what kind of personality she had.
After looking into it, I found out she’s a gloomy tsundere stalker—absolutely my type.
Unfortunately, the game was never officially released in my region, so hardly anyone around me is a fan of hers.
Thankfully, I can read Japanese now—otherwise I probably would’ve missed out on such an amazing character.

Exclusive Content: Kemono Friends Doujinshi Storyboards (3/3)

The Kemono Friends doujinshi was probably the first publication we ever brought directly to sell at Comiket in Japan.
At the time, we paired it with another doujinshi based on Zootopia. Because of this combination, we were nearly categorized as a "furry fetish circle" back then.

I didn’t think I’d ever want to draw Nyaan—until I watched the latest episode of GQuuuuuuX.
It only took ten minutes for this character’s popularity to skyrocket.
The director is seriously amazing at capturing a character’s essence with just a few simple actions.

To be honest, I finished this composition three months ago, but at the time, I just couldn’t get the sketch right.
I felt I probably wasn’t able to capture Akira Toriyama’s character style well, so I ended up shelving it.
I pretty much forgot about this drawing over the past few months, but when I opened it again today, I realized it actually wasn’t as bad as I remembered. After tweaking the expression a bit, it all came together.

I think a lot of us around here had our sexual awakenings thanks to arcade game characters.
Most kids at that age had no idea what they were really looking at when they saw those sexy female characters.
There was just this vague, strange sense of pleasure—only years later did we realize that feeling had a name: “sexy” or “cute.”

The Female Crew of GQuuuuuuX

When I was watching this anime, I looked forward each week to seeing the sweet interactions between the cute female characters,
or to discovering what kind of adorable moments the newly introduced characters might bring.
But sadly, with each passing episode, my heart broke a little more.
The main characters made me so sad that I couldn't bring myself to draw them properly.

The Hunters Guild: Red Hood

Yuki Kawaguchi is probably one of my favorite artists in recent years.
His dynamic linework and the way he designs strong, muscular female characters never fail to amaze me.
Although his last series didn’t find commercial success, it set a new standard in the hearts of many illustrators like myself.

Exclusive Content: Kemono Friends Doujinshi Storyboards (2/3)

Creating the Kemono Friends doujinshi came with its own set of challenges.
The biggest one was that there were simply too many cute characters—so I had to divide the screen time evenly among them.

I have to say, it was thanks to my paneling style that I managed to fit more into each page than usual, which made it possible to include all six main characters.
Even so, there were still many I couldn’t draw.

Shiiko (GQuuuuuuX)

To be honest, when I saw the teaser at the end of Episode 3 of GQuuuuuuX, I felt nothing for this character — her plain design just wasn’t my thing.
But last night, I was already tired and planning to sleep after watching Episode 4, but her performance and backstory instantly jolted me wide awake.
I don’t know what happened to me, but it’s like I’ve been possessed — I’ve been drawing her nonstop ever since.

Hikari & Nozomi (Blue Archive)

I wanted to draw them ever since they first appeared, but I held back.
When I heard they were finally added to the gacha, I wanted to draw them again, but I held back.
I thought everything had passed and I could finally be at peace...
until I saw their 3D short video on YouTube.
Alright, I couldn't hold it in anymore.

Vaporeon

It wasn't until the life-sized Vaporeon plush was released recently that I was shocked to realize Vaporeon's size wasn't like that of a cat or dog, as I had always assumed, but more like a lion. The discovery hit me quite hard.

I’ve heard that keeping large felines at home leads to fur getting everywhere.
If you kept a Vaporeon, it would surely leave water all over the house instead—and just imagining that terrifies me.
This drawing was made out of that fear.

It’s been ages since I last read Zombiepowder.
I was genuinely surprised to see someone mention the name Wolfina Getto, because back then, I almost wanted to draw her the moment I saw her.
Unfortunately, my drawing skills were lacking at the time, and the series itself was little known, so she ended up sealed away in a corner of my memory—until now.

Looking back over the past decade, I think Kemono Friends might be the most tragically wasted doujinshi subject of all.

If it hadn’t been for the director switch controversy back then, this franchise might still be dominating the doujin scene today.
It had, hands down, the strongest character designs and the largest cast I’ve ever seen—almost every character made you want to draw them.

Nimi Nightmare

I can't really say I'm a big fan of vtubers.

I remember when Kill la Kill first aired, we immediately decided to make a fanbook.
But it didn’t sell very well, which left me discouraged for a while.
