Friday Feature: Playtesting Secrets of sha-Arthan
Added 2023-05-05 18:34:36 +0000 UTCAs I mentioned last week, playtesting of Secrets of sha-Arthan will likely begin this summer, starting next month (I hope). Before doing that, I'll be sharing the latest drafts of the player-oriented material – character generation, basic rules, spells – during this month, with the goal of weeding out all the worst errors before playtesting begins.
I'd originally wanted to wait until I could present all of the player material in a more attractive fashion, laid out and with some of the art I've accumulated to illustrate it. That's proving a bigger headache than I'd imagined. Rather than wait until that's done, I will simply be giving you unadorned PDFs, perhaps with a piece of art here or there to break up the text. At the end of the day, I feel like it's much more important to get the latest draft into your hands than that it look nice.
Once I make the drafts available, I will also set up a means of providing comments on them so that they get my full attention. In the past, patrons have provided me with comments to posts like this one and, while I do appreciate those comments, I can't deny that I often find them inconvenient to read. That's why it's important I establish a more direct and easy-to-use means of giving me feedback.
Of course, the best feedback comes from play. That's why an important part of the summer playtests will be sessions I referee on the Advanced Grognardia Discord server. I referee my weekly Empire of the Petal Throne and Twilight: 2000 campaigns using Discord, so I'm quite familiar with its ins and outs already. Plus, it's a relatively lightweight way to chat with people and post information that suits my preferred style of play. Once we get closer to readiness, I'll talk about this at greater length.
Thanks again for your patience and continued support.

I agree, you don't have to pretty it up to play test it.
