Units of Measurement

As I progress through the latest revision of the rules, I've been considering the standard units of measurement. D&D (and most fantasy RPGs) have traditionally used US customary measurements, but there have been exceptions, like RuneQuest, that have made use of metric measurements.

Do you have a preference?

That's definitely an option – and an attractive one to me. However, I worry whether or not that might be off-putting to some people. I suppose the trick is coming up with a measurement system that's easy to understand and mentally convert, as you suggest.

I voted both, but would premise my vote with the explanation that I would make a unique system of weights and measures but with an equivalency that players could imagine. For example; a yard and a meter are synonymous for gaming purposes. Players familiar with both existing systems can envision distances in meter/yard measurements. Make the new system based on a meter/yard but have it divided into 4 parts, (9 inches / 20 centimeters). The conversion is easy, and does not have to be exact in an RPG.

Metric feels too planned and mathematical for a fantasy campaign.
