This is, more or less, a traditional magic-user. Precisely how and why magic works is not something widely known among even the erudite of sha-Artan. It's one of the "secrets" of the setting, though I hate calling it that, because, from the perspective of play, it mostly doesn't matter. I don't want setting details to become the focus.
