I think you should put Allo Allo high up on your list. Hilarious 80s show set in a cafe in German-occupied France during WW2. It’s wacky, you’ll love it. (Top of my wish list is still Friday Night Dinner and Father Ted)

2024-10-26 15:39:35 +0000 UTCAt the time it was made Mark being able to correctly pronounce one of the two letters that was wrong in jalapeno was a signifier that he was culturally middle class. The guy saying it with 2 wrong letters was working class. I think since this was made people in the UK have learned how to pronounce it (at least the J). When I moved to California, a few years before this was made, I'd never encountered a jalapeño before. I pronounced it the same way my fellow working class guy did, but ordering at a Chipotle with my then new girlfriend. I never lived it down. But I had practise because I also mispronounced Focaccia at an Italian place in front of a very posh girlfriend in the 90s too.
