lol just joined and catching up on the peep show, love your reactions! but not sure how new you were to UK sitcoms when this was filmed but you're rarely 'supposed' to be on the main character's side and should be celebrating them getting their well deserved comeuppance :D I suspect you may have come to this conclusion most of our sitcom characters we enjoy seeing lose out and suffer lol

The two fingers at the end is the V-sign, it's a harsher version of the single finger we started to adopt from the yanks in the 60s. Single finger usually meaning a sort of "up yours" dismissal whereas the two fingers is a much more angry "f*** you!". Origin is still sketchy but the folk tale goes that English longbowmen were so feared that when captured by the French their index and middle fingers were removed so they would never again be able to draw a bowstring. Therefore English archers who were still digitally intact would show them to the French to intimidate them. British children learn very early that if you want to denote 'two' of something, you do it with your palm facing outward or get swiftly rebuked with a parental palm across your own face.

Yeah you're right you don't have to show your cards if everyone folds, but Jez bluffed by accident and didn't have a clue what he was doing, I love Poker and used to play in tournament every week in my local Casino, it was actually one of the cheapest and most risk free things you could do in the Casino.

I'm guessing it might be because we have a thing call "product placement" where brands pay a series/channel a premium to have their products shown (maybe they didn't renew? or the channel after the time of filming but at the time of airing had a new alcohol partner so they couldn't in good conscience advertise this one) Fosters (the beer in question was the sponsor of channel 4, the channel it was originally made for.) British Humour is all about cringing at the main character apposed to US sit Coms, where the star is the wise guy cracking all the good jokes and very handsome. The best way to describe the British humour is Self-deprecation, Acrimonious, Dead Pan Sarcastic Awkward and cringe. BTW the 2 fingers, means Fuck Off looool

Interesting. I wonder what the source of the blurred version is. If they were broadcast versions it's possible that whoever was sponsoring Channel 4 comedy at the time, which is often a beer company but not necessarily Fosters, objected to the brand being shown.

Maybe the beer cans were blurred because they thought it would be okay to show but found out after filming was done that they wouldn't be allowed.
