Submitted for your approval. Well, for your review. Well, for a preview. For FUN. It's all just for fun, let's not get hung up on semantics!
Please enjoy.
Longer videos equals good times for all, except your production schedule. Marvelous.

this is genuinely your best video. I loved how you had the over-arching theme of your "Gynee" and the frequent call backs to it. There's just something about the way that you would launch into debunking, go back to talking to the camera, and then go back into debunking (like the Beakman episode) that I really liked. Really good writing for such a low-budget production. Please, more like this! I don't care if the gap between videos is higher, as long as they're this good.

I don't think he ever made an unambitious video. D always put a lot of effort into every video; he's just able to do them full time now.

if only companies didn't use kickstarter as a launch pad for products that they would have produced anyway. Companies use the crowdfunding platform as a way to essentially ensure a level of preorder for an item. In this way people end up getting the wrong idea about these sites and treat them like online boutiques of unique and cutting edge products and then get really mad when either their money is essentially stolen or a project comes in under their projected goals and end up running out of money before they're able to make their project a reality. Crowd funding can be awesome but it's definitely being gamed pretty bad which hurts a lot of real and promising projects.

Crowdfunding has gotten such a bad rap...and for good reason. Snakeoil saslespeople like this need to be bashed out from the weeds before they can do damage.
I'm reminded of a recent kickstarter I backed that had the most amazing track record for a) being realistic, (starting with a real project complete and ready to manufacture) b) providing updates more-often-than-weekly, and c) is about to ship on time. (search: pjrc teensy 3.6) It kills me that the shitbirds can give the whole platform a negative reputation when they are so powerful to back real creators. Grargh.
Thanks D, you are awesome.

Good stuff! Cicret's claims immediately reminded me of the work of one of my old university professors who actually does research in this area (with a little bit more academic integrity thrown in). It's just *slightly* more clunky (who doesn't want to wear a depth sensing camera on their shoulder?), but we might get there in 5-10 years or something. http://www.chrisharrison.net/index.php/Research/OmniTouch

Great twist on debunking. I have backed a few kickstsrter campaigns and its pretty much the same thing. You get to watch people figure out that it's a lots harder, takes longer and cost more than you think to start a business and deliver on your idea. But I love them for trying. Cicret seems a little less well intended. Can't wait to see your braclet capt. D.

Thanks! I think that's too harsh a term. I don't believe that he or the company is out to deceive the public. I just think they're using viral marketing to keep alive the development of a product that is hopelessly flawed. But I could be wrong!

Thanks! I dunno much about no math, but that's an interesting observation. I should say though that the graphic I use to illustrate that part was generated by literally shining a virtual light through a virtual transparency, resulting in the projection on the surface. But maybe AE calculates that stuff in a simplified way that's not exactly consistent with real-world light :S

He doesn't really do anything fun enough for a GIF in this video, but maybe I can make one out of our exploits from the previous one :)

Thanks! I hope that my donation will not be considered throwaway. I wanted to show that I'm not merely interested in badmouthing a startup's efforts. I'd like to see if this product will be delivered, and if it is, I want to test it and provide a review. Plus, it's a way to show to others who may have donated that I'm not making fun of *them*; that I want to see results for my money just as I'm sure they do.

Not sure when. I screen-grabbed the timeline from their site only a few days ago, but haven't looked on it since. Oh well. That's how it was as I was making the video, at least.

Great video!! Loved the Gynee prototype. A geeky comment regarding the falloff, that might have been smart not to put in the video anyway. I think its even worse than what you say, and its more appropriate to say it follows an inverse cube law. One of the dimensions in which its projected is not perpendicular to the ray direction. In that dimension, the "handful of stretchy squares" in 4:00 is streched even more (in the "arm direction") than in the other one. So, being h the "height" where the sensor is placed, and d the distance, intensity falls with h/(d^3 + d h^2) if my math is right. For distances of several heights like in this device, that's more or less h/d^3.

Loved the callback to CD Jr.! Any chance we can get a download of that little CD .gif? (with a hard g!) Also when will we get our very own Gynee?

This was excellent. I see a lot of these hardware mockup comps ( the worst one IMO was the Mozilla Seabird -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oG3tLxEQEdg ) and they're always silly.
If I have one tiny piece of feedback, it's a bit insensitive to talk about a throwaway $250 donation immediately before the Patreon call-to-action. I'm fine with my donation being used that way, but that could have been a bit clearer.

That was straight up awesome, your videos just keep getting better! Love the throwdown at the end, can't wait to see the resolution on that one (though it's rather predictable). Can't wait to share this one once it's public. Also you forgot to link to the Gynee kickstarter...

Thank you so much for addressing the problem of crowdfunders not giving people what they paid for. Channels like iDubbbz have been doing it for ages but I'm so glad a general audience channel like yours tackled the issue in such a precise and great way. Keep up the good work!

I'm about halfway through right now and I am totally loving this video! This is one of those crowd fund campaigns that irritates me the most. They obviously never had a working model but the idea is cool. Apple watch without the watch.
