You could probably just watch an episode of Knowing Me Knowing You privately to catch up on who he is. He's basically an amalgam of many white British middle aged male presenters of the 70s-90s, who managed to be offensive to guests and somehow make everything all about themselves. The most obvious inspiration for me is Richard Madeley, who is inexplicably still on TV. I'm not sure which older presenters he's based on?

I agree with Paul, Alan is far more funny in this if you understand what he's already like and the back story of why he's failing so much at life. But I'm glad you're already liking it. Hopefully you can go back and watch 'Knowing Me, Knowing You' which is the first series of the chat show he's trying to get a 2nd series for in this. Kinda prequel it sort of thing.

While this is a great series...you jumping in halfway through the partridge journey so may not "get" the character...knowing me knowing you may be a better place to start
