2023-07-07 19:01:23 +0000 UTCHere the only official and legal part of the wedding is the "I do" saying in front of the municipality official at the town hall, and signing the contract there after the "I do". It's usually a proper ceremony though with guests and such. All other wedding stuff is optional. Most people don't wed in a church, and if they do it has no legal meaning. The wedding doesn't neccesarily have to be performed in the town hall either as long as it is done in a public accessible place, but it has to be done by a municipality appointed official. My sister married at home, which was allowed as long as they kept their courtyard gate open during the ceremony for people to walk in.

2023-07-05 12:51:15 +0000 UTCMy Uncle did the same. Our local registry office is in the town hall, so its atleast in a nice 120+ year old old building with a big grand staircase. Though he did use his Ford Sierra as the wedding car complete the wedding car tape/bow and tin cans dragging behind π
