The vine symbolizes strength, determination, endurance and survival. The golden vines has always been prevalent within the story. The golden vines have an attraction to Lili, they follow her when she is in her most vulnerable. They latch onto her trying to comfort her by surrounding themselves around her and never letting her go. Yet the idea terrifies Lili...to be wrapped around with golden vines that feed on her worthlessness. Her memories if not careful can attach themselves with these vines and create hallucinations that can trap her with a fake past.
However, to avoid this Lili can't allow herself to fall into despair because event eh slightest can cause havoc. Jasper can't get near Lili when the golden vines begin to attach themselves around her. The vines push Jasper away and if he gets any closer they can become violent. The golden vines just want to be with Lili and make her feel nothing as she is wrapped around them. The golden vines believe in true punishment and if Lili begins to punish herself the viens will follow since they do not have a mind of their own.
