Hey all! SimCity (2013) is up! It is a well-intentioned game with slick production values and pretty music, but also sort of a complete mess that never gels into anything cohesive.
I'm probably going to have a follow up to this episode - the original version of this script actually started with a few comparisons to Cities: Skylines and talking about how this game viewed cities, but once I started going on about how fundamentally the game didn't work I kind of couldn't stop. However, I'm sort of torn on how to proceed given that it's the 28th of September.
My current thoughts: Finish up SimCity Part 2 as this month's short, but give it enough time to percolate into something cool (i.e., release it in the first week or so of October instead of the next two days). Then move on to Halloweeny scary games for October, and probably a Life is Strange retrospective in November! Yay!
However, that does mean that this month's short will come out a bit late, and that sort of sucks. So if any of my backers have huge objections to that, my backup plan is to get a short blip out this week about a small indie game, then do Halloweeny stuff, and potentially pick up with SimCity in November. Since you're backing me, I leave it to you kind folks - do you have a strong preference either way?
