Someone Like You Chapters + Explanation

This post contains all of the comic pages & not yet public WIP pages. This includes a written explanation for the story. This post will be updated when more is added. Enjoy!

This directly follows the events from Burn where hare was beginning to burn himself out and bun was barely able to stop him. during which we got a flashback to a time bun was unable to save him and the effects that had on both of them mentally and physically. Hare received long lasting burns and Bun's Iris appears broken.

Someone like you introduces Moo (The/he/she), a child-like character who appears to Hare seemingly out of no where. Hare is startled when offered a flower, which ignites spontaneously as he goes to grasp it. The Cow reveals their ability to grow flowers from their hair, all glowing a similar purple to hare's own fire affinity. Tossing a large bouquet Hare spas his fingers and burns all of the flowers to cinders, creating a whil 'o' wisp of burning petals around them.

Missing scene: Between this and the following scene, Hare and Moo chat, Hare mentions Moo seems familiar, and apologizes for his poor memory. Moo brushes it off.

Moo asks Hare if they can play some more, to which he is denied. Hare explains all the tasks he has to do. One task is to rest, to which Moo laughs. "You say rest like it's a chore." As hare speaks his eye begins to slowly show burn damage and he apologizes. "It's maintenance." Hare remarks plainly. Moo convinces him to go stargazing instead.

Moo asks Hare what he dreams about when he sleeps. Hare replies he occasionally has a dream where he appears as a kangaroo and does not understand the meaning. In front of the kangaroo is a purple glowing sphere he is looking into. This is a teaser for a future concept I'll be exploring with another new character to their universe.

A black square indicates a scene jump cut where we are taken to a small confrontation. Hare is consoling Moo, who when offering a flower to Bun is promptly reminded to "stay away from him." This implies both that they have a shared history, and Bun has misgivings towards Moo that Hare cannot fathom the reason of-as his view of Moo is very positive.

Moo later approaches bun, who remarks cute doesn't work on him. Moo in response transforms into a larger, older looking version of themselves, roughly 1.5x Bun's size. the cow insists they just want to have a conversation.

Luey's Role in all of this: There is a brief cut to Luey clenching their chest and saying "someone inside me hates themselves." This can be omitted, but it just serves as lore that these ocs exist within the universe of Luey themself, and that their emotions can impact them. Luey is the stand-in of the actual creator, and that beyond being a shapeshifter, they have universes inside them. this is how I see my projects like werewolf rehab and queerbears. I think it will be a fun dynamic because sooner than them being one and the same, Luey could theoretically have conversations and interact with each oc with their own autonomous soul & view on life. This is a metaphor for art taking on a life of it's own. At some point the art you create doesn't just stand on its own legs but learns to dance, and you become part of the audience to the show.

Bun's Dilemma: Moo tentatively explains that Bun is clearly stressed, following Bun's exhaustive rant about the overwhelming stress they find themselves in. Bun mentions states of the world, and the wall of text behind them, while not clearly visible, are actually a list of world event happening right now that I consider incredibly distressing from household stressors to US politics to the starvation of the Gaza strip. All are various intensities, but wear down on Bun as a collective. This is a generalization for how many of us are likely feeling right now, as the situations of the world grow more dire, and we have to maintain our own lives on top of all of these things as well.

Bun asks if he's expected to simply ignore the problems of the world to which Moo quickly refutes. Bun asks why moo refuses tor respect that he has no interest in escapism, seeing it as avoiding reality. He asks why moo is so insistent on pestering him.

Burnout flashback: At this point we are shown a flashback to Hare covered in burns, body burning to ash. expository dialogue reveals that Hare's burning powers function similar to a phoenix. He turns to ash, and then is reborn sometime later, losing most of his memories in the process. This has happened several times, and even hare is unsure of how many times it's occurred. We know from the Burn comic, however, that this takes an incredible mental toll on Bun, who is left without light and falls into a deep depression when this occurs. This is because Hare's roll serves as the beacon of passion, metaphorical light, and overwhelming energy. This contrasts bun's general focus, but executive dysfunction disorders that typically leave him immobile due to his burdened mind.

In the flashback we're also shown that Hare directly insists Moo make an effort to mend the bridge between her and Bun, no matter how long it takes. It's implied Hare turned to ash shortly after this, and we are not told how long ago this was. This re contextualizes the beginning of the comic, where Moo is not in fact a new addition to their lives, but one Hare has amnesia towards, and bun is actively avoiding.
