Hey!
Dealing with all these assets has been a pain in the butt. At some point my scene got corrupted, so Maya would crash whenever I tried to save it. But I've learned a lot from this so far!
I don't import these models straight into the scene and just copy them. That's a terrible way of dealing with this. I want these objects to exist in a clean scene, where I can edit them if I need to and then have all the copies update automatically.
You might argue that all this effort is wasted and I get that. But I would argue that I didn't get where I am by skipping opportunities to learn new things. Especially the stuff about scripting, I learned from this, will come in handy when I script my own rigs down the line. Speaking of scripts, here is an updated version of my material converter.
Aaanyway, the pic above is a quick test to see how this would render. As I kinda expected, the trees and some other objects look quite awful. I have a few ideas to fix it though. Thankfully, because of the way things are set up, doing these kinds of updates is easy. I'm not gonna bother with it just yet though and instead focus on getting the rest of the scene and poses finished.
