Figure painting warm-up

My friends, the driver is ready and he doesn’t look stoked 😂

It seems that the goggles should’ve had a green tint but my bottle of clear green dried up, so I went with the next best thing.

And yes, I painted his entire torso just so no one would ever see it 💀

I have a hunch it will look just like promotion stills from those old WW2 films! BTW Martin, I've been watching your old interview with Jon Bius. Great stuff!!!! I'm on Patreon with him too. Since I'm an aircraft modeler (only here to admire your work and expand my horizons), I found him as soon as I rekindled my modeling hobby (it was the pandemic, of course). I really, really like how you both found a way to scale back and nurture your passion instead of grinding through weekly slogs :D

I might do a fake historical photo once the diorama is finished :) Haven't done one of these in a long time!

It's true that the face is the most intimidating part of the process, but once you get the hang of it, it somehow becomes the easiest, at least in terms of effort and the end result ratio! Also, the shadows often are way too deep on my faces, especially the cheeks, but it's actually quite easy to go back with some of the darker skin colors and blend them in more with the rest of the face. And lastly, the red and blue glazes make a world of difference!

Night Shift

It needed some ghetto solutions on my end :D I attached him through the turret ring and he's sitting on a block of styrofoam that I've cut to the proper height.

Man this looks amazing. Incredible work as always.

Looks cool I like the blue as it’s draws your attention to the guy , I think with so much detail and things to look at it helps give the viewers eye a place to start

Now there's an unhappy chappy! He fits in really well with the tank, neither look best pleased with their lot. The Goggles really look nice.

So good looking, the weathering is subtle but matches the photos I’ve seen,

Excellent. Once all the figures are done, it may be fun to photograph them in black and white to see how much the whole composition matches the B&W reference photos in overall effect :-)

Bravo again. I keep learning that you cannot be afraid of going deeper in tone as it truly does look so much better. This has been a wonderful learning process. I also know my faces will never look that good !!

Incredible work as always. Could you elaborate on how you get a figure like that (namely torso and shoulders) into a hatch after it looks like the tank has been permanently sealed up? How do you insure it’s sitting at the right height? Thank you!

Lookin good

I'd be well happy if my figures looked like this. 👍

Andy Rowe
