My friends, here's a simple base for the technical truck. A mountain road somewhere in Afghanistan.
Although I wanted to put the car in a more suitable setting somewhere in Africa, it was the lack of suitable figures that made me look for something else. These Afghan rebels are pretty well done figures. The one standing in the flatbed is from Stalingrad, while the one on the ground from Black Dog. I just don't know what they were thinking when they placed a casting sprue right on top of his turban π₯² I still need to fill the gaps and imperfections with Green Stuff putty, for now they're just glued together with removed seam lines.
As for the terrain, I wanted a mountain road. Definitely. It's the first thing I imagine when someone says Afghanistan. And I also made the groundwork in a slightly unusual way. First thing to sculpt and texture was the road with all the wheel marks and ruts. This was quite easy to do as I just had to smear VMS Smart Mud on the styrofoam, sprinkle it with a lot of fine dust, and wait for a while until it started drying. A spare wheel from the kit was used for the impressions. Then I modeled the remaining parts of the base with all the rocks and loose earth. Only then I laminated the sides and blended them in with the ground, because I didn't want the large rocks protruding from the base. This way it seemed easier to keep them "locked" behind the boundaries of the diorama.
I also added a road sign from Miniart, this will have the "steep climb" and "sharp turns ahead" signs. And that's pretty much it! It's now ready for painting!
