Windows 98

My friends, a lot went down since the last update. Last week, before putting the video together, I quickly made a couple of metal fixtures for the front wall. Because I was too lazy to order some U profiles, I glued them from Evergreen plastic strips. These were quickly painted and I wrapped it all up in a video about carving the foam, sculpting, and painting the walls.

In the meantime I fell sick with some minor cold, resulting in fatique and me not being able to do much - the creativity and will to do stuff just fades away when you don't feel good.

Then came the weekend, some work in the living room and kitchen again, but I managed to do some modelling during the evenings.

I started by laminating the rear of the warehouse with veneer, this time fixing it with PVA and superglue instead of double-sided tape. Simply because the tape has some volume and I wanted the wood to sit directly on the styrofoam.

And then... the dreaded windows! Again, just like the metal fixtures, I glued them completely from Evergreen strips. It actually went pretty smoothly! A quick spray with black primer, then a coat of Hull Red, and the blue paint was applied with a brush in a random pattern, leaving some of the dark coat visible in the form of chipping. It just wasn't safe to use chipping fluid and scrub the paint off because the window frame was too fragile. Some rust washes and I could add the glass made from acetate foil. Cracks were scribed from the inner side, each glass panel fixed with PVA glue from VMS (this one actually dries into a crystal clear finish!), and the inner side was quickly misted with diluted flat varnish. On the outer side, I added streaks of dirt by painting Vallejo Light Mud at the bottom and then dragging it upwards with the aid of VMS acrylic thinner. The entire assembly was then glued into the building with lots of PVA glue. The next day I trimmed the veneer around the glass and filled the small gap with more crystal clear PVA. Worked like a charm!

Window sills were bent from a copper sheet, primed with metal primer, and painted using the same method. Oh, and I added some loosely hanging cables behind the window, just like in the reference images!

BTW, I rode around the real building during the weekend, it was a strange feeling of deja vu!

Next up is another challenging part: corrugated and zinc-plated roof!
