My friends, the crew uniforms are ready and the road to skin tones is clear. Or maybe not, I'll probably paint the puppy first ๐
But to be honest, despite how beautifully sculpted and detailed these Panzer Art figures are, I kinda found them more difficult to paint. Maybe there's a certain threshold for us mere mortals and some details become just too small to paint properly. Now I can see why some figures have overexaggerated details - to make them easier to paint (and actually see ๐). Nonetheless, these are the most realistic figures I've ever worked with, and I'd love to see them painted by a real professional.
In other news, I mixed and matched the uniforms without too much regard for "authentic colors", I simply tried to have some fun and be creative!
The airbrushed base coats led to some interesting results. For example, the "grey" guy has a strong shadow on his chest because he's slightly hunched over. That's something I'd never think about, so thank you, airbrush and Tamiya paints! ๐
Also, the black Panzer uniform was an airbrushing fail, so I had to save the day with a lot of brush painting. I tried building up the lights with an airbrush, but that led to an almost brown result! On the other hand, the black pants on the other crewman were sprayed with a single translucent layer over the black/white shading, resulting in a much better effect!
As I don't have Tamiya's Flat Flesh in my collection, the skin tones will be done completely by brush. Fingers crossed it won't drive me nuts!
