That's enough leather for a lifetime!

My friends, I got both leather jackets done and on top of that I painted their belts, pistol holsters and other small things which luckily weren't made from leather 🥲

I also added some dirt and weathering on their pants, completely with acrylics because I didn't feel like speckling enamel earth tones on them 😁 It was done with a combination of glazing towards the bottom and stippling on their knees. First layer was done with AK Burnt Umber and darker stains were added with Black Brown.

The second dude's jacket is quite different. Instead of Leather Brown I used Flat Brown as a base coat and then highlighted it using the same paints like in the first example. It was too late into the process when I realized this material could be actually painted with the good old drybrush technique. The thing about leather is, at least as far as I think, it creates more contrast than other materials. We can often see strong highlights right on the edges where the material is folded. This could be done easily and quickly with drybrushing. Additional color gradients can be always added later with glazes, which is how I proceeded here. Just instead of drybrushing I picked every fold with a small brush, spending several hours on it... ouch!

Now I need to paint their heads and hands which are small models on their own. And helmets! It always baffles me how much details have to be painted on a something as simple as a helmet.

Figures are really unique compared to armor models. It's just a small piece of resin, but you end up using countless paints on it. But damn it, the things you might end up learning are so worth the time and effort!

Very nice work. Oh I just bought some AK Washable Agent (you just add it to your acrylic paint before airbrushing it), you can use it instead of chipping fluid or hairspray. I will let you know what I think of it when I try it.
