One leather jacket is out of the way

My friends, here's the first attempt. Surprisingly, the leather was much more fun than painting trousers. It's the textured, high contrast nature of the material that makes it really enjoyable to work on 😁

I used the "stippling" method to paint the whole thing, which is essentially chipping, but on figures. You apply each layer in a textured manner using tiny dots and scratches and because the color transitions are textured, you can use stronger contrast and build the effect up faster.

Colors used were Dark Rust for the base coat, then Leather Brown sprayed from above (these were airbrushed). Then I continued with brush application and kept adding Brown Sand into Leather Brown. The final two highlights had Pale Sand added into the mixture. I then toned the effect down with local glazes using Orange Brown, Leather Brown and Dark Grey towards the bottom to give it that dirty, greased-up look.

Now I need to paint the other dude. Here I went for a slightly different color, he's again base coated with Dark Rust, but the top-down color is Flat Brown.

Their shoes were painted in the same manner and were my "training pieces" 😁😁
