All painted up and ready for foliage!

I primed it with Mr. Surfacer Black, then sprayed Tamiya Deck Tan from above. What followed was a heavy Vallejo treatment with white, deck tan, old wood, light mud, and black brown applied wet on wet. After the acrylics were dry I gave it a nice thick wash with Industrial Earth and Burnt Umber from 502 Abt. Then the most enjoyable part, adding moss from fine turf, painted with Golden Olive and Flat Yellow from Vallejo and toned down with Slimy Grime Light from Ammo. Finally, I highlighted the bark texture with Deck Tan and a very fine brush.
I was inpatient and did a little test with foliage, but I'll keep that for tomorrow :)

Thanks a lot! Why didn't I think of that, ever?? Gotta bring out my nose hair trimmer tomorrow and see how it tackles the grass ๐

2021-08-20 21:51:58 +0000 UTCCan I suggest that you are being way too hard on yourself. That tree looks excellent. For a first try, outstanding. I'm sure you will only improve with experience. I know it will sound stupid but I'd also suggest that you get a battery powered nose and ear hair trimmer. I think my Revlon one was about &15 AUS. They aren't expensive, have protected spinning blades and do a great job trimming stray static grass, grass tufts and other foliage materials. I like how you can really knock back the height and break up the sameness of grass tufts. I always enjoy your work and draw much inspiration from your posts. Keep safe and it's great to see you are mending well.
