The first one being the tank, obviously ๐
A small detail like this makes for a wonderful weekend project - I managed to do it all in one day. And here's the fun part - no airbrush, no enamels, no oils! All done with paintbrushes and acrylic paints.
You can see the base coat in the last photo, bricks painted in different tones and stones in dark grey. The next step was to add mortar lines, which were made from a 50/50 mix of sand and plaster, applied dry between bricks and secured with VMS Ballast Freeze. This created a nice, uneven, white patina. Next I painted the stones using the wet blending method. Grey, deck tan, light mud, old wood and white were the primary colors. They looked out of place with the visible gaps, so I added mortar here as well, now it looks more logical. After this was all done, it was time for the fun part - weathering.
First a lot of random stains and streaks with pure white, then moss into corners with Ammo Shader (Light Olive Green), which didn't work THAT well because for whatever reason the acrylic ink got absorbed by the styrofoam! Then of course shadows and dirt stains with German Cam. Black Brown and Raw Umber and finally moss and lichen on the top tiles applied using the speckling method (Vallejo Khaki Grey + White).
The video footage is sweet, I've got it all including cutting and carving. I think it'll make for a nice detailed video about a small, but important part of any scenery :)
