I guess we're ready for painting ๐Ÿ˜†

Well, that was fast ๐Ÿ˜„ 1/100 scale has its benefits!

Seriously, I spent like an hour assembling the StuG, and that was mainly because I devoted waaaay too much time to cleaning up all the mold lines, especially on the tracks and wheels. The only "improvement" was drilling out the gun barrel and exhausts.

I guess it's obvious that I was more stoked about another vignette. This time I tried a different kind of foam which I bought a few weeks ago. When you cut it, it has no foamy texture. The hot wire pretty much smoothens it out. What a perfect material, especially when you don't want to invest any time in finding wooden veneer in your shed ๐Ÿ˜This foam also cuts perfectly with a knife, making terrain modelling a lot easier.

The rest was the same old schlock - spreading air drying clay with a toothpick, although this time I had to add white glue over the foam (white glue also makes blending and spreading the clay easier!), modelling the rutted road, adding track marks, making sure the model won't "float", also while it was still soft I pressed some 2 and 1 mm stones into the clay. Then without waiting for it to dry I brushed diluted PVA over the terrain and sprinkled it with 0.5mm sand and earth. Now I had to wait for the glue to dry, so in the meantime I made some trees ๐Ÿ˜

Nothing spectacular, really something a kid could do, just a bunch of twigs which I drilled some holes into, and then I superglued pieces of Sea Foam into them. Tamiya putty was used to add some bark texture and that's it - I don't even know what trees they're supposed to be, I just wanted to try making some :)

Then of course static grass. Even the short 3mm grass that I have is too long for 1/100 scale, so I had to trim it down with scissors. It looks like a total mess, as always, and as always I'm hoping that paints will make it look really good! I'll add some dried leaves once the whole thing is airbrushed, and I also kept some parts "empty" for snow coverage.

The final detail were some concrete mileage markers from styrene sheet... and yeah I had to avoid the strong temptation to make another wooden fence ๐Ÿคฃ

And that's it, the whole scene is ready for painting. I'll start by hitting everything with a black primer and then I'll focus on the StuG, so yeah, more progress tomorrow! So far I spent one afternoon and evening on this mini project, so there's still 2 days to go!

Also I'm ready for bed after this session, so I'll get back to y'all in the morning :)

Russian engineers from Zvezda did that for me ๐Ÿ˜

Night Shift

yeah, that was fast!! you even started with speckling before applying a base coat!! controversial! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

Do you need to hammer them in like in that one Youtube tutorial about this pin method? :)

Night Shift

Total side note. Found a drop dead easy way to build metal tracks on larger subjects. Prym sewing needles. Get an almost in scale bolt head finish too.
