My friends, it's unbelievable, I know, but this project has reached its conclusion! Yes this was the most involved project I've done on Youtube so far... it was tough at times, but also fun, and most importantly, a big learning experience because there's a lot of things we haven't explored until now.
So what did I do to finish the scene... well, obviously painted the sides, this is definitely the worst part of the entire vignette, the angles are all over the place because of my sanding efforts and it's overall just a mess... but I don't care 😆 It was a learning experience and next time I'll approach this basic aspect with more care.
The most important addition which in my opinion improved the vegetation a lot are these small unspecified flowers/shrubs. These were made from sea foam. I just painted it green, picked out the trunks with old wood color and the small seeds were painted yellow. I can highly recommend this product, it's probably one of the most versatile diorama building materials, especially when you want to create some interesting vegetation - shrubs, bushes, trees, and the results are so good! It must be some kind of spice or something because it has a very distinct smell, like black pepper or something. It's also dead cheap - 6€ for the entire package.
I also tried combining it with some fine turf from WS and again, the results are very good and extremely quick. However I didn't include these into the scene because the crushed foam is in my opinion too artificial looking for 1/35 scale. It's gonna work like a dream for 1/48 and smaller scales!
Spent shells turned out to be quite the challenge. I really didn't consider that adding green shells on a grassy base could lead to such an unbalance in the whole scene, so I used just a few...
And I also fixed Hans' rank, for the final time 😅
The truth is that I could keep going, tweaking stuff, adding more details, maybe some larger items as well, but 1) I was already running out of steam and passion for the project and 2) the base would get unnaturally cluttered. The composition doesn't offer too much space for randomly placed stuff.
Oh and a final observation - the overall composition is not the best. I'll do my best to educate myself on this topic and come up with better, more intriguing layouts in the future!
Anyway, thank you all so much for bearing with me during this project! I need to finish the video and then we'll do a quick weekend build. It'll be a 1/100 scale StuG III B from Zvezda. I already have the kit and it's an absolute banger!
