He's already standing on his own

Hey friends, so this is the progress from last night, already got the Crusader's running gear sorted out 😁

This time I only assembled the visible portion of tracks. This way they'll be easier to remove for painting (they're again dry fitted) and I'll have the upper run as a spare for track impressions in the terrain.

So far I can't really tell if this 2007 kit is better or worse than the Easy 8, everything went together without a hitch so far. There were again tiny ejector pin marks on the inner side of tracks. At first I wanted to leave them, because these tracks look more like from a 1/72 kit, but then decided to fill at least the outer side which is gonna be visible. This time I filled them with a mixture of superglue and VMS CA filler powder, it's much faster, more accurate and easier to clean up than putty. Basically just a small drop into each mark, hit it with CA accelerator and carefully scrape it flush with a hobby blade. This way I preserved the track details on the inner sides which would get destroyed if I sanded it all with a sanding stick.

Because the CA mixture is transparent, you don't even see the result (sign of a job well done I guess? 😂)

What I can comment on however is the photoetched set from Hauler, it's a bit weird. It replaces a lot of details which look better in the kit, but we'll take a closer look at that as the build progresses.

More updates later today!

We're entering the age of plastic tool clamps looking better than photoetched ones, but nothing's gonna replace a good set of metal fenders when you need to add some damage 😊

This is similar, although it feels more like microfiller powder used with resin. It's also opaque if the mixture is thicker, in this case it dried into a relatively transparent finish 😊

I could never understand🤯 the mindset of certain brands placing a fret of photo etched in the kit, to replace details on the model, that are just as good if not better. While it is nice, for details, it can an absolute bane to me when cutting and folding. But I guess it is a necessary evil😈, and on occasion it makes the finished model look better.😀

I’ve use CA and baby powder to fill gaps. It’s not clear but it’s sandable or able to be cut when it hardens.
