So I was able to lay down the base coat 😊This is the AK Real Color 100 - Russian Grey Green + Tamiya white.
The first layer was mostly white and some green, the second was the first batch mixed with the real color (to get a "somewhere in the middle tone") and the third was pure grey green. And they were obviously sprayed over some chipping fluid.
One of the things I wanted to try was to reverse the color order, starting with the lightest tone. This way it seems like we can save time, because it creates the light chipping layer, which only needs to be filled with darker chips. If it isn't 100% controlled, like in this case, it doesn't matter because I'm sure the unwanted ones will get blended into the surface and they're gonna look like random texture and abrasion.
I had no experience with chipping AK RC paints so I goofed up a little in a few places, but it'll be fine after some additional steps. But I think this method has huge potential, what do you think?
Also the new light setup is ama- I mean, eh...? It's amazing because I captured the best footage ever, perfect white background and the colors look exactly like in real life. Works great for photos too, these were shot the usual way with my phone and I just increased the exposure a little. No harsh shadow towards the top like on the old photos... so yeah, awesome! But it's not so great because those bulbs aren't as luminous and it's more of a floodlight than a spotlight, which means it illuminates the entire workspace evenly. That's great of course, but I feel like I can't see anything! Maybe it just needs a bit of getting used to, I don't know. The setup is basically "natural daylight" in terms of color temp and luminosity.
Some people model only under natural daylight next to a window. One of my friends says it's the best thing ever because his work isn't influenced by artificial lights... I guess this is gonna be something similar?
Anyway, more texturing and pre-weathering tomorrow! And I decided to make this into a really simple, but effective model, so I won't go too crazy with it... or at least I'll try 😁
