More painting madness!

This paintjob is all over the place! Not gonna lie, this might be the most difficult model I ever painted - there's no color photographs, which naturally would make everything easier, and most importantly - the colors which were used on the real tank are, how should I put it... not exactly easy to pull off like for example a Russian winter camo.

What I'm really happy about is the pale olive green tone, it's basically the same as I made in the Photoshop color profile, just a tad lighter. At first I had no idea how I would make it look like it was applied in the field in an uneven layer while also making it cover most of the surface, but I think it came out pretty okay. There's still a few things I need to tweak before I give it a final coat of satin varnish and I also need to paint the remaining parts like wheels and commander's cupola, but to be fully honest, tonight I'll go to bed happier and more satisfied than yesterday.

On the other hand what makes me slightly sad is that the model will really pop and all the different colors will blend together after washes, oil dots, hand painted chips, rust tones and one important effect which will make a natural transition between the panzer grey and the top colors - light grey/tan remnants of the flaked Zimmerit. A wash will for example make it all look more "tidy" as most details are now obscured by the muddled camouflage. I guess it's the same story with every model, but obviously a model this unusual makes me wanna get there ASAP, but there's no need to rush things. I hope you'll have a little patience with me here - I have a feeling it will turn  into an interesting model, but it needs some tlc 😊This right here is a solid base imo, and I gave it everything I had, but it just looks weird because the color scheme is unusal... well, I'm repeating myself.

One last thing, I also did some dunkelgelb distressing before I covered it with green, seems like I could do the same on that Panther which I have in my stash, which will be painted just in dark yellow (ok, the turret will be in 4BO, it'll be a Soviet captured Panther, but that's a project for another time 😁)

More painting madness! More painting madness! More painting madness! More painting madness! More painting madness! More painting madness! More painting madness!

I have it, but I'll have to try it on the next project. On this model I needed a very fast drying varnish so I could layer the paints on top of each other so I went with Tamiya which I'm already familiar with, but on the next model, I'll definitely try the VMS :)

Have you tried the VMS varnish? I did recently and I simply fall in love; so easy to apply with an exxxxcellent result. I usually prepare a 50/50 mix of varnish and Vallejo flow improver. You can spray generous layers, the varnish will set smooth. The negative point is the drying time. According to VMS three days are necessary to dry fully. However I already tried after 24h and it works.
