Goodbye shiny Tiger, welcome Panzer Grey Tiger π
The bottom grey coat is all done, base layer + simple distressing (just a layer of lighter paint over a heavy chipping fluid) and varnished with satin clear. I also did the distressing on those places which will be completely covered with yellow and green, mostly because I didn't have anything better to do, and because it's gonna be almost invisible, I didn't try to make any intricate patterns like on the sides where the Zimmerit is missing.
Also even though I ran out of Tamiya white paint, I found an old bottle of MRP, so I used that and the resulting mixture of Tamiya and MRP was like airbrush heaven, super smooth flow, zero clogging, super smooth finish. But since MRP is a strong lacquer paint I wouldn't trust it for the dark yellow chipping.
No problem there, because the Tamiya bottle should arrive tomorrow πmaybe I'll try using both Tamiya and MRP whites in 50-50 ratio to get that smoother paint flow but keep the chipping properties.
Also holy cow, painting a model such as this takes a lot of time! Priming and base coating it with dark grey was like 3 hours! The distressing, although it's more delicate kind of work, went much faster.
Anyway, first thing tomorrow morning will be to mask the chipped zimm parts with masking fluid and then wait for the mailman π
