Details are done and so am I

What's up my lovely mates, today I finally got all the details painted and the tank is ready for earth effects.

I also made you a very simple painting guide for the exhausts.

Step 1: base coat with Lifecolor Incinerated White (a matt white with a hint of red)

Step 2: rusty texture with a mixture of Dark Grey and Dark Brown Vallejo paints

Step 3: enamel rust wash using Ammo Streaking Rust (the smoke effects will be added as one of the final touches when the model is done).

And about that tarp: it was a nightmare! For some reason the dark grey base coat refused to dry into a totally matt finish, it kept remaining glossy... this never happened to me before.. so I had to add a HUGE amount of Tamiya Flat Base to the paint to make it absolutely matt. Luckily did the trick. The highlights and shadows were painted - get this - with black and light grey oil paints. I find painting tarps with oils much easier, although I suck at this. Have to start doing these more in the future to get a better hold of the technique.

Final note: I won't be at the workbench for a few days as I'll be working on the video, so no photo updates until it's done.

Next time I'll always add a bit of Tamiya flat base into the paint. That's what I've been doing in the past when painting tarps, guess my tarp painting skills just got a bit rusty

Night Shift
