Hope you saw how great a companion Sarah Jane is, so good in-fact she got her own kids spinoff. While I wouldn't recommend watching all of the spinoff (if you want to at all, of course) there is about one really adult and emotional episode per series, which I'm sure people could point out for you if you just want a taste of the spinoff.
