Introduction to Qyerath told by a Thousand Eyes part 2
Added 2023-09-10 02:40:37 +0000 UTCSorry this one took so long and is kinda short... Stuff was happening both good and bad, and I also got caught up playing looot of videogames... but here. LORE PART 2!
------------------------
So back on track. With the Great Divide now over, the Plaguewalkers sealed inside the Plaguelands. The winners of it all, the “human” Gods and Primal Beasts now had free reign of the entire rest of the world! So as you can imagine they started getting up to some crazy stuff.
Each God and Primal Beast looked at humanity, the dominant race on this planet that filled with creatures and monsters by the day, and they said “I want to make my own version!” And so the Gods took some humans and changed them, bred with them, or bred with each other-oh and some even used clay or solid magic!- and they began making their own species based off Humans. Since Humanity was the source, they became known as the Origin Race. Many of the Primal Beasts also took on a more human form so as to not terrify their new people when they manifested down on the surface of Qyerath. So you can imagine the stuff they made! The Goddess of Elements and Nature, Sarina, mated three separate times with the Goddess of the Sun and Qyerath’s two moons, Zelez, and together the two goddesses birthed the three Elven species! Or Races, whatever you prefer to call them! The High Elves as they call themselves, born of the Sun, the Dark Elves, born of the small moon, and the Moon Elves- they sometimes call themselves Lunarians!- born of the Great Moon of Qyerath. Then you had the-how did two goddesses make children? Oh, you Reckani! I can show you if you’d like~ Oh wait the time limit! Sorry we need to speed this up before you wake up and leave me!
So the different Gods and Primal Beasts made their races, and now you have Elves, Centaurs, Dwarves, the Strakkad, the Harpies, the- what are Strakkad? NO TIME! I could spend an entire stellar day telling you about all the races! You just need to know there are also some races that came from the convergence that aren’t Plaguewalkers though! Like the Mers and Daemons! But don’t confuse those with Mermaids and Demons! Spelling is important!
So time passed and with strict guidance from their Gods and the Primal Beasts, most importantly Zuthar. The new races of the world were rapidly advancing in tech again. Going from Stone Age to Bronze age to Iron Age while also learning more and more about the magic around them. Arcane Magic was created, the magic of science as it is called. While not everyone can cast magic, everything that can cast magic can cast Arcane Magic as long as it knows the formulas and spells! But there is a limit on how many you can cast, and there are limits to affinities that you can cast! Like someone may be good at casting Fire Arcane Spells and they can’t cast Water spells at all, but someone else can cast both water and plant Arcane magic, or they can only cast divination spells though that is extremely rare!
How do you gain more spells or lose the ability to cast spells you already learned? Well it’s kind of hard to explain as you are not from a world that has magic… But let’s say… Oh like a videogame! You only have so many skills you can unlock, so maybe you want to be really smart and really strong, so you level up your intelligence with a lot of studying and work out a lot to get stronger, but in doing so you lose the ability to swim! Arcane magic is kinda like that. No, you don’t actually level up like a videogame silly! That’s just an analogy! Though the people of Qyerath do have classes and stuff. But it’s just to help categorize stuff. Like a Warrior isn’t just stuck as a warrior forever, it’s just they had that talent and put in all the effort to become a warrior, so if they can cast some magic and suddenly want to become a Mage only, it would take quite a bit of work you know?
But back on track! So there is Arcane Magic that anyone with mana can cast, there is natural magic that is also called Bloodline Magic. That is magic that only people of a certain group can cast and is passed down in the bloodline. They can sometimes fuse if two people with bloodline magic mate, but usually one will just dominate the other. Unlike Arcane Magic, Bloodline Magic can’t be taught, and it also grows alongside the user. Rather than just casting [Fireball] and shooting a big ball of fire, a fire-based bloodline magic caster would cast a tiny little ball of flame as a kid, and then if they train suuuuper hard, when they are an adult they shoot a humongous fire tornado! Why is it called Natural magic as well and not just bloodline magic then? Well, that’s because the Origin Race named it that and got lazy! Elves for example can naturally control plants, so you could say all Elves have plant-based bloodline magic! But they just call it Natural Magic instead. Like the Natural Ability of that species!
What are Natural Abilities? Do you really need me to explain thaaaat! Come on you humans have many of them! Natural Abilities are just things you can do cause of your biology! Like how humans can throw things with their shoulders or how the Severa can shapeshift! You don’t do it with magic, you just evolved to do that!
Okay now back on track! So Arcane, Natural Magic… OH! Chaos Magic and Spirit Magic! Chaos first? Well I thought it would be self-explanatory… Chaos Magic is a dark magic that easily corrupts the user. Corruption doesn’t mean it is evil though! But many Chaos users do have some malevolent traits in them. Chaos Magic is also called Life Force Magic or Essence Magic by those who like to claim they are “Pure” casters of Chaos Magic. Unlike Arcane Magic and Bloodline Magic that has a cooldown or requires your mana to use. Chaos Magic relies on either the life force of the user, the life force of others, or the emotions in area. Like one of my favorite nasty little Chaos Spells [Fear Hound]! They start off quite cute, but if a tragedy happens, a [Fear Hound] can become a terrifying monster very quickly!
Now because Chaos Magic tries to corrupt the user or suck the life out of them. Some people circumvented this! Like Witches and Warlocks! You thought Warlocks were men who made pacts with gods? Where did you hear that? No on Qyerath Warlocks are men who perform the Soul Diffusion ritual to be able to cast Chaos Magic without suffering the physical effects themselves. Warlocks and Witches, though there are many more Witches than Warlocks, after performing the Soul Diffusion ritual, will usually go and spread their soul over an area and turn it into a domain, keeping around half of their soul inside themselves to stay safe from Velex’s wrath. As Death does not like being cheated you know! People with Resurrection magic were basically given her blessing to do so, whereas splitting your soul apart to achieve slight immortality just makes her very angry! So inside a Domain, a Witch is usually two to three times as strong as before. And yes, multiple Warlocks or Witches can make the same area a Domain, and then it becomes a Haven! A Coven Haven is an extremely dangerous thing to tackle for even the most experienced of adventurers! Then there are Liches, unlike the other two, Liches can be man or woman, and a Lich rips their soul from their body with an even darker ritual I don’t remember the name of, and then places it into a puh… a phy… A Phylactery thank you! Wait how did you know that? A video game? Oooh!
Sorry, right, time! Anyways. Liches are extreeeemely powerful users of Chaos Magic as rather than using the emotions of others or using the natural environment, they use their physical vessel as the catalyst for it. It can be quuiiite scary! Imagine a man looking at you and chanting a strange language before his arm bursts into crystals and his leg turns into a dragon’s, only for him to throw a miniature Black Hole at you as his body returns to normal! That is the power of a Lich, those who have removed themselves from Death like the Revenants. And as such… Velex hates them a lot too. If a Lich’s Phylactery is ever destroyed, just like Revenants, their souls are devoured and that is it for them. No afterlife, no resurrection, nothing.
So, the next Magic Type is Spirit Magic. Spirit Magic is ironically older than Sarina herself. Spirit Magic, also sometimes called Fairy Magic, and even rarer, Relic Magic and Shard Magic. Is tapping into those who are tied to the Mana of the world. Spirit Magic is also usually called Partner Magic and Bonded Magic! That’s a lot of terms? Well of course it is your learning about an entire world here eeeheehee!
Let me condense it a little bit then. A spirit, or elemental as they are often called, is basically living magic, and when they partner with someone or “Bless” them as the Elves call it. That person can call on the Spirit to cast spells for them. Their body will take a bit of the strain as a little bit of a tithe to the spirit, but it allows for non mages to cast magic, or powerful mages to cast magic they can’t otherwise! There are many spells exclusive to the Spirits such as [Fairy Dawn] a verrrrry powerful healing magic! As long as your heart is still beating or your brain is still working, [Fairy Dawn] is most likely going to be able to save you! Even if they aren’t attached to your body!
Now Finally, we have a sort of cheat magic made by Zuthar himself. This one is as rare as bloodline magic, but is actually not really magic at all. It is called a Talent, and some individuals are born with rather crazy talents. However Talents are exceedingly rare even compared to magic casters. How rare is magic in general?
Well that heavily depends on the race… some like Dwarves cannot cast magic at all by themselves but they are amazing at Runecrafting… trademark? Wait sorry forget I just said that last bit! Dwarves use Runecrafting to make incredible magic tools, faux relics as they are often called, they cannot use magic spells themselves, but many of them create tools, armors, and weapons to cast spells for them. But Elves, on the other hand, all Elves can cast magic! Same with Angels and Demons and others! But if you are a human… I’d say one in a hundred people can cast magic by themselves? Though that’s if they awaken. And even then at best, they can usually learn five or six spells and only up to tier two Arcane Magic.
There are tiers of Arcane Magic? Of course, there are! It’s the Science Magic remember! Arcane Magic has ten tiers, and while there are hundreds of tier one and two spells as that’s what most people can cast, the higher-tier Arcane spells are crazy. One of my favorite spells that has only been cast twice is [Cry of the Heavens]. Doesn’t it just sound amazing! What does it do? Oh, that beauty does sooo many things. A golden light shines from the user, and you can practically hear divine bells and singing reverberate for hundreds of miles, The sky splits apart like during the Great Divide, and holy rain pours from the sky healing all the allies selected by the caster, while that same holy rain can either burn or petrify the ‘sinners’ designated by the caster. Like a great shrieking howl of the heavens, the caster will crash down to the ground again, drained of all their mana, and one of the two times their life force, and the spell will finish. I believe the last time it was used… 150,000 people were petrified the 70,000 allies of the caster were all healed and I think a few were resurrected? Honestly, I was just blinded so much I could barely tell! I think all 10 of my eyes had sun spots for the next 10 days!

But there are maaaany spell ideas I will ~steal~ incorporate and work with! And there are different types of magic like Arcane which is "Say the spell and cast the magic" versus Natural/ Bloodline Magic which is only for your species/ bloodline and is more like Avatar. "I want to make water turn into blades against you and now turn it into a wall of water. I don't need to say anything to do that."

2023-10-23 14:53:30 +0000 UTCOverlord is my actual inspiration for it! Murayama did take a lot from DnD tho haha. But I love how there are 10 Tiers of spells and even some 10nth Tier spells are stupid seeming but mega powerful like [Drifting Master Mine] which is just a condensed Mini Nuke that floats around! So I have made a few dozen spells already and plan to make over a hundred or so.
