Straight!? v0.17.1 Patreon Release

Hey,

Normally I say a bunch of crazy stuff but in all honesty, I'm pretty proud of this one. It took forever but this one is best to just jump in and ride the wave; hopefully you'll hit every emotion on the spectrum by the time that last screen fades.

Spoilers and discussion are welcome in the comments. If you haven't played the update, you're going to really want to avoid spoilers on this one.

This is our best, guys. Thanks for the patience, support, and believing in us.

Change Log v0.17.1

-Image and typo fixes

Change Log v0.17

-Massive story addition and completion of Chapter 8 as well as the conclusion of Part 3 of the story. Sorry about the cliffhanger... don't hate me

-All new images in this update are now rendered in 4K UHD quality and converted down to 1080p. This should result in enhanced image quality of all the new images added in this update ONLY. All future images will be rendered in 4K as well. This should also not affect the game size either. So those who previously were downloading the full edition as opposed to the crunched edition actually have better image quality now than they previously did with 6 gig file size.

-Modified dialogue choices in cafe in Day 1 conversation to prevent references to Zack being gay before he tells Braden he may like the D.

-Corrected spelling errors but probably still missed just as many

-Slight wording change in post-park conversation to clarify "first kisses." For those confused, the park kiss was Zack's first kiss and Braden's first kiss with a dude.

I think I love you. :D

Yeah, i tried to experiment with the wet texture a bit. It works ok on Zack and Mik but it does some weird stuff to Braden's skin texture so i only used it sparingly in that one shot. I"ll look into the illustration stuff you're talking about too. So part of what slows these updates down is that I used to write the outline while keeping in mind what I was capable of doing with the art. In the past 3 or 4 updates, that's changed. Blayke doesn't have a firm grasp of my limitations on Daz so when he writes or comes up with plot lines, he prioritizes the story rather than my capabilities. The good thing about this is that it pushes the visuals outside of that safe zone so I end up trying new things. I've been doing this as well on the writing and i think it works better and the story is allowed to breathe more. We end up cutting down on the repetition of the same images over and over. So then we get results like we have at the beach---more action sequences. However, this increases the workload for the art exponentially. This echoes back to what you were saying about the shower conversation. I probably could have added another camera angle there but at the time, and after all the action sequences we had in this update, it was nice for me to look at a long stretch of conversation and be like "sweet, i can do this entire block of conversation with only like 3 images." It's easy to find places to cut the workload--so you get the goldfish type stuff there. My fav laugh out loud moment (and subtle Easter egg): When Braden drops the dildo in the sand and presents it as an offering... Zelda flashback anyone? Nobody got it, but I laughed at it and that's all that matters :p

Thanks Aaryn. I forgot to say that when the guys were playing with water pistols, the wet skin textures were perfect! I've been compiling a list of the things I'll miss: seeing the photo Braden gave Zack up on the wall over their bed, the photo of young Braden with dark hair that I always hoped we'd see in close-up, Braden's cum-stained shirt, the onesies, the white hoodie... Oh and once again the game parallels my life, although Braden rather than Zack this time: I nearly drowned when I was 12. Haven't had a fire yet, thanks for the sense of doom! I do have a couple of criticisms: the sequence where Braden and Zack are talking in the shower on the beach, in the forehead-to-forehead sequence the mouth open/mouth open sequence of heads started to feel a bit like watching a pair of goldfish after a while. The other one's more general, where the illustration doesn't match the dialogue. The sequence after the rescue when the text says "His grip around me never loosens", and Braden is very clearly seen not gripping anything. The absolute laugh-out-loud moment came with the line, "I feel like that's probably the first military exercise in human history where we saved a dildo from some seagulls." That one made my Facebook, much to the confusion of everyone who read it! Thanks again guys. I'm sure you can imagine how much I'm looking forward to the next instalment!

aww, thanks Phreddy. I think the dev team agrees this one came out pretty good and it hits pretty hard. I know we had to wait awhile on this one but hopefully you see why and it was justified. Lot of moving parts here, lot of setup, lot of resolution, but even more questions and new directions to go. Plus, hopefully you see some of those seeds that were planted earlier in the game that seemed random, actually had a point to them. Yay for pointless banter between the boys that was actually foreshadowing! Also, thanks for the extra donation too. you've been around for a long time, you know it means a lot but imma still say thank you :)

Oh man. I just finished playing. The update asked a couple of questions at the start about previous decisions and I couldn't remember one of them so I went back and played the game from the start again. Had some other shit to do urgently, so it took a while to get to the end. For everything - for the improvements over time (very noticeable in the latest update), for all the work you and, latterly, the guys have put in, for the feels, for the story and for the ending point, I just upgraded my pledge. Thank you. Thanks for everything about this game.
