Javert's suicide is so impactful, but I think the fact that Jean Valjean had provided him incontrovertible truth that people can change, that led Javert to one of 2 possibilities. Either he had gone mad, or his entire ethical code up to this point had led to countless sufferings and he was now morally reprehensible. The weight of guilt or the feeling that he could not continue living because he had gone mad, it drove him over the edge. The churning waters lulling him over the side. This is why he is my favorite character, his psychology is so fascinating. Thank you so much for giving it a try, I am very glad you enjoyed it! I think I gave it a 9/10 too lol
