Roadside Process pt 1
Added 2023-06-03 23:32:31 +0000 UTCLittle bit of a style experiment. I intentionally kept the image size low so as to utilize the pixilation. I wanted to use the pencil tool and create sort of a scratchy grainy effect.
The idea is loosely based on this road sign I used to go past on my old jogging route. It had an old brick wall in front of it, with a bunch of trees and waste ground behind. Initially I thought it'd be cool to have some sort of creature or scary bum living in the waste ground, peeking his head out from behind the wall. As I started the image I decided I wanted some sort of human figure in the foreground so as to give the creature something to glare at. However, as I continued I started to feel that the creature was an unnecessary element, and that it actually distracted from what the painting could be; just a guy having a quiet moment. I thought I could emphasize a sense of melancholy with the environment and the guys expression. I could give him a dull grey hoodie and a mildly scruffy appearance. I could paint the trees and the roots around him to look like clawing hands reaching out. This is what the image eventually came to be.
